Edler picked up the save in relief allowing a run and picking up a strikeout. She scattered nine hits and struck out six all while allowing only three earned runs. Hannah Burger went 6.2 innings and picked up the victory. Lingle scored a pair of runs and added three runs batted in on her third inning home run. Bergstresser, Twohill and Kesley Barnes also had two hits each. The Foresters made it interesting in the top of the seventh inning scoring two runs before bringing the tying run to the plate with two outs but Monmouth hurler Alyssa Edler came in relief and got the final strikeout to end the game.įour Fighting Scots players accounted for nine of the team’s ten hits led by Foster with three hits including a double and two runs scored. Brooke Twohill earned one of the hits to drive in a run and Courtney Johnson platted a run with a groundball before Berstresser was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to close out the inning. Quick to respond Monmouth countered with a run in the fourth and a four run fifth inning to push the lead to 8-2.ĭuring the four run outburst the Fighting Scots scored four runs on only two hits and capitalized on two Forester errors to build the six run lead. Lake Forest answered back in the top half of the fourth inning when Ritsema went deep to left centerfield to cut the game in half. After a single by Lauren Bergstresser and a Sommer Foster one out double, Caitlin Lingle went deep to centerfield to give the Fighting Scots a two run lead. Monmouth bounced back with a three run bottom of the third that was highlighted by a Lingle three run home run. They got the first run of the game in the top of the second inning while Whitney Leiderman singled to the left side of the infield to score Sam Ritsema who singled with one out to start the inning. The Foresters got rolling in the first two innings, taking a one nothing leading and gather more hits in two innings (four) than they had in the entire first game (three). Game Three – Monmouth 8, Lake Forest 4 l įor the second straight year Lake Forest exits the tournament without a win as Monmouth earned a hard fought 8-4 win over the host in the first elimination game of the 2012 Midwest Conference Softball Tournament. ![]()
